A RARE LARGE HETIAN WHITE JADE CARVED SHAKYAMUNI SEATED FIGURE    "十八/十九世紀 和田白玉釋迦摩尼坐像

"Well carved and portrayed seated in dhyanasana with both hands in dhyanamudra, clothed in loose-fitting robe falling in elegant folds leave the chest bare, showing the Wan symbol, the serene face with downcast eyes and gentle smile flanked by pendulous ears, the head and domed ushnisha covered with tight curls, all supported on a hardwood double lotus plinth with mandorla backdrop. The backside neck area still has remains of old wooden mandorla pieces, as the current plinth and mandorla are not original. The stone of pale white color and smooth surface. 18th century.


Provenance: Property from an important local estate. A similar but smaller white jade Buddha was sold for $2,322,500 at Christie's, New York, on March 26, 2010.
