CHEN YONGQING: A YIXING "FORTUNE" TEAPOT

  • Dimension: W: 6 in (15.5 cm) H: 5 1/4 in (13.5 cm)
  • Estimate From: $7500
  • Estimate To: $10000

Of barrel form, the well-potted teapot is of purplish-brown color, the tapering spout rising diagonally upwards, with ear-shaped handle, and bead finial. The body incised with poetry calligraphy, with artist signature "Yong Qing". Early Qing Dynasty period. Chen Yongqing was a renowned Master potter during Ming Wanli Dynasty. He was born in Jiangxi, and was given nickname "Chen San Dai Zi". Although he was not at the same level as Master Shi Dabin, his unique traits still has him near the top of all the Master Potters. This teapot was probably an imitation during the early Qing Dynasty period by a very skilled pottery maker, as shown in the quality of this teapot.
