DENG KUI: A YIXING TEAPOT WITH COVER    鄧奎製 茶壺

Of bulbous form, the teapot has wide shoulders carved with a band of scrolling key-fret patterns, the body incised with colophon, writer’s and incisor’s name, Man Sheng and Zi Mei. The tapering and round spout levels with the lid and the ear-shaped handle, the finial in compressed conical form. Bottom bears six character "Deng Kui" mark. Deng Kui, active during mid Qing Daoguang Dynasty period, was a friend of Qu Ziye. He works with many Yixing zisha master craftsmen, usually with his own design or help produce. Most of his teapots have "Fusheng Deng Kui Jianzhi" or "Fusheng Jianzao" marks.


此壺圓鼓腹,斂底,收肩,腹與肩之間有一圈回紋裝飾,直流口剛勁有力,粗壯耳執把,蓋口密實嚴合,一絲不苟,腹部一邊刻有"宜古宜今,曼生筆,子美刻"字樣。子美當為一名紫砂刻工,但無從考。壺底有"符生鄧奎監造"篆文方印。鄧奎,道光時期中人,是瞿子冶之友,與紫砂藝人合作,自己設計並監製,紫砂壺底多鐫以符生鄧奎監製造或符生監造等印。
