 Lot # 59
A VERY RARE CARVED AMBER FIGURE OF GUANYIN    清早期 上乘琥珀雕觀音坐像,瓶口有微小斷裂,後配紅木底座

  • Dimension: H: 5 1/4 in (13.4 cm) W: 3 7/8 in (9.9 cm) Weight: 216g
  • Estimate From: $35000
  • Estimate To: $45000

Modeled as a Guanyin seated upon a buddhist lion, her face is finely depicted with serene expression and wearing a loose robe in heavy folds exposing the jewellery on chest, with one hand resting on raised knee holding a beaded necklace and the other a vase. The figure carved from an exquisite piece of amber, with rich and deep reddish-brown color and good translucency, all rests on top of a carved wooden stand depicting stones, bamboos, and lotus flowers. Slight damage on the vase. Early Qing Dynasty period.

Compare to a smaller carved amber guanyin sold in Christie’s Hong Kong on May 29, 2013 Lot 1948, sold for HKD 600,000.
