Shang Dynasty period or later. Of oval section in the form of two addorsed owls, their rounded bodies supported on four stout legs, cast in high relief with four wings, the domed fitted cover cast on each side with a pair of large round protuberant eyes centered on a sharp hooked beak, the heads further adorned with two pairs of C-shaped ears, all reserved on dense leiwen ground, below a segmented bud-shaped finial cast, with malachite encrustation. The inside of cover inscribed with eight characters.


此件造型為商周時期重要的青銅禮器和食器,主要盛放煮熟的黍、稷、稻、粱等食糧用。整體呈兩隻獸鳥形,蓋為兩隻鳥頭,腹部為鳥身,足為兩隻鳥爪,滿飾象形紋飾並鏨刻回紋,造型敦實,形制飽滿,包漿自然瑩潤,保存完好,十分難得。蓋內刻八字銘文。 來源:維吉尼亞州私人藏家舊藏 。類似器型,可參考明尼阿波利斯美術館藏商代青銅鴞型四足卣
