"Dated to autumn of 1902,the interior inscribed with poetry calligraphy and signed Ma Shaoxuan with one seal mark. The reverse painted with riverscape scene featuring huts,boat,bridge,and mountains,fitted with stopper. Ma Shaoxuan (1867-1939) was one of the four most influential inside painting snuff bottle artists of the Beijing School circa 1900 (the other three were Ye Zhongsan,Zhou Lüyuan,and Ding Erzhong). He was famous for his meticulous ""one side of poetry,one side of painting"" inside painting techniques. In 1915,his inside painted snuff bottle was awarded the Honorary Prize at the Panama Universal Exposition."
