Based on Chinese folklore, the figural group depicts Zhong Kui, the vanquisher of evil and ghosts, dressed in long red official’s robe and hat, leading a ghost away in one hand, with serious and stern expressions. The ghost with playful expression, grabbing Zhong Kui’s sword on the belt. Two character mark "Xiu Tang" on the back. Xu Xiutang, born in December 1937, in a Yixing pottery family, is a renowned Yixing pottery maker with many titles. His famous works received numerous awards from both domestic and international competitions.
