JIN ZHONG: A YIXING "LIUPEI" TEAPOT

  • Dimension: W: 4 3/8 in (11.2 cm) H: 2 1/4 in (5.8 cm)
  • Estimate From: $3500
  • Estimate To: $5000

Of compressed globular form with curved top and bottom, the thinly potted Liupei teapot was difficult to make, and it is an excellent teapot of the flattened lamp design. Bottom bears two character "Jin Zhong" mark. Liu Peisheng, birth and death unknown, was active during early Qing Dynasty period. This type of teapot was popularized from early Qing Dynasty to late Qing Dynasty period, with small changes during different reigns. This particular teapot has a slightly bolder spout, so it was likely made during Qianlong period.
