LI BAOZHEN: A YIXING "MELON" TEAPOT    金鼎商標李寶珍製 瓜菱紫砂壺

Of melon form, the teapot with bamboo themed short spout and sectioned handle, the lid similar to melon root with bridge-shaped bamboo section finial, one side elegantly incised with plants, and the other side incised with Chinese calligraphy, bottom with four character "Jin Ding Shang Biao" mark, additional two character "Bao Zhen" mark below the lid. Li Baozhen (1888-1941) was born in Yixing Shushan Nanjie within a poor family, and he studied pottery making under Master Yu Guoliang. With honesty and integrity, he would rather be poor than selling low quality teapots, and was well-respected.


此壺飾以瓜菱型壺咀似竹段,拋物線上揚,把手為竹段耳朵型,壺蓋飾以瓜蒂,加上竹段橋再飾以些許竹葉點綴,整體觀之線條佈局合理明顯,吳德勝之金鼎商標為晚清民國時期人士。李寶珍(1888-1941),宜興蜀山南街人,為人忠厚,誠實,貧民出身,從俞國良習藝,其人甘願貧窮,也不製作粗貨用於廉價謀生,另人敬佩。
